Alternattiva Demokratika says its supports calls for more action and upgrading of legislation against homophobic hate crimes.

Alternattiva Demokratika this morning expressed support for the demonstration - Right to Feel Safe: Demonstration for Hate Crime Legislation - to be organized by LBGBT NGOs.

AD Chairperson Michael Briguglio said: "The Green Party fully endorses the calls by NGOs and civil society for more action, including the need to update Malta's legislation, against homophobic hate crimes."

AD's spokesperson for civil rights Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer said that full sexual and gender equality should be achieved in Maltese society without fear of discrimination on the basis of one's sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

The spokesman for Malta Green Youth Robert Callus said that AD will be present in the demonstration because it feels that LGBT rights have not been given enough attention by the political parties in parliament.

"Denouncing hate crimes is not enough without political commitment. As Malta's progressive party, AD advocates concrete LGBT rights and sexual and gender equality."
