Times: What 'progressive' means

Saturday, 12th June 2010 by Alfred Falzon, Attard

Many are those in Malta who could not care less what certain politicians utter in public. Others are bound to disagree with the above and feel, more often than not, that they are being taken for a ride.

Indeed, common mortals who care are inclined to ask what the newly coined buzzword "progressive" stands for; whether it hints at a progressive shift to the days of the Neanderthal when man did what he pleased in the name of the law of the jungle or if it is meant to promote solid moral values which rule out any recourse to bigamy, unnatural same-sex "marriages", indiscriminate hunting or the barefaced diffusion of outrageous literature among the up-and-coming generation, to quote but a few of the latest fashionable trends of our so-called modern society.

Some politically active politicians are wont to run with the hare and hunt with the hound and go to all extents to wield the sceptre!

Are these pseudo "progressives" the harbingers of a new socio-political order for Malta that makes a mockery of our belief in what is righteous and uplifting?

I stand to be corrected but there must be an answer, one that is straightforward and devoid of equivoke, and this before the next electoral test.
